My Favorite Things about Running in the Fall

Can you believe it’s already the beginning of November? Which means fall running weather! Who doesn’t love fall running weather? The humid summer heat is ending. The time is about to change. The leaves are falling. It’s the perfect time to focus on all that you’re grateful for. So on that note, here’s some of my favorite things about running in the fall that I’m grateful for.

You finally get to see the outcome of training in that suffer fest of the hot summer heat & humidity! Faster paces! I totally get it, by August you’re wondering if you’re really going to be able to hit your race paces in your upcoming races. You’ve been logging lots of slow humid miles and ready for a break. Well here it is! Unless the fall paces! The humidity is gone, temps are cooler – so your body is able to work more efficiently and hitting those paces gets a lot easier!

This may not be some people’s favorite but I love candy corn. Not as much as when I was younger, honestly. But candy corn and those pumpkins are a go-to for fueling fall training! There’s a lot of calories packed into that little candy which comes in handy with fall ultra training! Fueling with pumpkin flavored anything is always a plus! Try it out! I promise you’ll be adding it to your arsenal!

Post run hot chocolate! Picture this – you got your run done early and the sun is just coming up and the temps are cold. You come home to a fresh cup of hot chocolate waiting for you. You’re making the hot chocolate right now, aren’t you? I don’t blame you! Add extra marshmallows for me!

Seeing the leaves change colors – Who doesn’t love the spectacular scenery on a trail run in the fall? That’s definitely gonna take your mind off your pace!

Fall races…. I’m talking everything from fall marathons & ultras to dressing up in your favorite Halloween costume for a race! If you haven’t done a fall race, sign up asap! And dressing in costume & running with other crazies in costumes…. need I say more?

2012 Chicago Marathon (my favorite)
